Erica Sweeting advocates for clients to procure payments they’re due under insurance policies. Advising primarily New York-based organizations and individuals, she draws on her commercial litigation experience to get them fair reimbursement in the wake of claims insurance companies have initially refused to honor. Erica adeptly interprets each case’s facts and then plots the most efficient path to the best resolution. Because many of the organizations she represents maintain several different kinds of insurance policies, from general liability to malpractice to officers and directors, she considers her clients’ circumstances as a whole and brings issues to their attention so together they can find ways to mitigate risk and potential problems. Taking a holistic approach to her clients, Erica extends beyond the immediate legal issues at hand and looks at their situations from many angles, thinking through all the details. With a personable, congenial personality, Erica puts people at ease. She always takes the time to explain complex concepts in clear, straightforward language so non-lawyers gain a thorough understanding. In trials, she helps juries navigate testimony and remember information by using methods such as alliteration and mnemonic devices. Previously, Erica served as a law clerk for the Honorable LaShann DeArcy Hall of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and then applied and honed her trial skills at a prominent New York litigation firm.
