
Dr. Joi Shaw Morrison is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry from Fort Valley State University and subsequently worked as a Quality Control Chemist for Vintage Pharmaceuticals in Huntsville. In 2002, Dr. Shaw graduated in the top 10 of her dental school class from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry, being inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Society. While a dental student, she volunteered in local soup kitchens and toy/clothing drives in the community. She was also active as the President of the National Dental Association. Upon graduation, Dr. Morrison was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Army, and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at Fort Meade, Maryland. She then served as a Captain and a General Dentist until June of 2006 at Fort Benning, Georgia. Dr. Morrison then began a Pediatric Dentistry Residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston. During her residency, she presented her research on Alveolar cleft moulding appliances at the National Meeting of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association (ACPA) and at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD). In 2008, Dr. Morrison received her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and a Masters of Science in Dentistry, and she also received the Peabody Award for Pediatric Dentistry. She completed her examination requirements to receive her Diplomate
