Detail description about your listingI am a Somali-Canadian therapist with extensive lived experiences navigating two identities. I am a Registered Social Worker with a Clinical Master of Social Work. I have practiced across the spectrum of the social services field for 15 years. My approach to therapy is: pro-Black, pro-choice, pro-queer, pro-trans, and focuses on being an affirming and safe therapist. I support all cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities.
I use a relational approach to build trust for individuals who may have internalized stigmas related to mental health. My specialties are grief, trauma, relationships, and identity/life transitions. Some of the modalities that I use are Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Culturally Responsive Grief Processing.
One of my goals is to empower marginalized individuals to embrace the validity of their experiences. Many times, we have been taught to minimize our trauma due to systemic barriers related to racism, sexism, etc. and this impacts our overall wellbeing. Life can be filled with challenges that can seem unmanageable and I am here to support you.
